Gameplay deep dive of The Blood of Dawnwalker revealed

Watch over 15 minutes of Combat, Magic and Traversal during one of the quests

During this year's summer solstice, Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco Entertainment unveiled an extensive showcase of The Blood of Dawnwalker. The presentation revealed more details about the traversal, directional combat, and magic systems, the variety of Coen’s vampiric abilities, and the differences in approach to quests and gameplay between day and night. The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled for release in 2026 and can already be added to wishlists on PCPlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The Blood of Dawnwalker — Gameplay Overview

The gameplay footage was captured on PC from the current pre-beta version – showing the game’s actual state as of today, without any behind-the-scenes polish. It is important to remember that the footage doesn’t represent the final quality of the game. Rebel Wolves is committed to a transparent and honest communication that presents the game as it is at every stage of production. This way players can get a clear picture of how the project evolves. The showcase also featured music from the game, live studio segments, and a developer-led deep dive. You can watch it again on the official /DawnwalkerGame Twitch channel.

Vale Sangora

Prepare to step into the gripping world of The Blood of Dawnwalker, where exploration and choice shape your journey. Unveiled in the latest gameplay presentation, Vale Sangora serves as the heart of this immersive narrative sandbox—offering players freedom to traverse its landscapes, from swamps and towering mountains to abandoned ruins and shadowy caves. Svartrau, the region’s largest city, contrasts starkly between day and night—where bustling medieval life masks the influence of a vampire regime by day, while moonlit rooftops reveal hidden secrets after dark, with residents reacting to the player’s choices and behavior.

Coen’s duality and combat

As a Dawnwalker, Coen is neither fully human nor entirely vampire, wielding a sword and using magical runes etched as scars on his body by day while embracing his supernatural instincts at night. His nocturnal abilities include lethal vampiric claws and Shadowstep, a skill that allows him to navigate rooftops. Bringing cinematic intensity to every confrontation, The Blood of Dawnwalker introduces a directional combat system designed for tactical mastery. Players must study enemy movements, block precisely, and time counterattacks to execute seamless, strategic takedowns.

The vampire nature

The developers also explain how Coen will grapple with his relentless bloodlust that intensifies at night and is accompanied by visual cues to enhance immersion. This hunger can be satisfied in various ways – by drinking the blood of defeated foes, including vampires, innocent villagers, or animals, as well as by using special blood vials. If left unsatisfied, this craving not only weakens Coen’s abilities and vitality but, in critical moments, may cause him to lose control – which could even lead to the death of an important story character.
